H.R. 235 Social Security Fairness Act and H.R. 958

by Judy McCann

The first week-end in March, I accompanied President Dick Haefner to the National President's Conference in Washington D.C. The NPC was followed by a legislative day on Capitol Hill used to visit our senator and representatives on issues that affect us as postal workers and/or federal employees.

One of the issues we discussed with law makers was the Social Security Fairness Act. This piece of legislation, if passed, would repeal the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO). Both the WEP and the GPO affects federal employees who are covered by the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS). [Full Story]

  1. Please take immediate action to see that the WEP and Offset bill introduced in the house moves out of committee and becomes law. It is an unfair law that has been on the books for way too long and it is severely effecting my retirement.

p.s. This is one stimulis package I EARNED, it's not a free bailout.

  2. While I am in complete agreement that WEP and GPO should be repealed, I feel it is also important to note that this is nice little PR ploy by our representatives.

Similar legislation has been proposed over the last 5 years or more with substantial bipartisan support (in fact cosponsoring it) to no avail. The bills never leave committee, thus there is no reason to worry about passing it.

Every cosponsor can go home and point to these bills as fighting for the people, but they obviously are not.

I hope it passes, but I am tired of the PR positioning of our politicians.

You can see my post on the subject at my blog - The Educator's Retirement - that points to several facts involved.

  3. HR235

The Bill is simply unfair, anyone with
    common sense can see that.
Why are we voting for Senators that just
say they sponsor a bill but do nothing
about it.This is not a BAIL OUT hard working
Americans worked hard for these benefits and
    also payed into it.
Wake up and smell the coffee...
    Vote for HR235 NOW....
    Thank you
